| Man, you know what? I'd like to start writing stuff on here again. They tell you in writing classes to write a little bit of something every day. Doesn't matter what it is. I think I'm gonna' start doing that, and maybe it'll get my creative juices flowing again. Who knows? I definitely need it. I feel the opposite of eloquent right about now.
In other news, life is fantastic these days! Soooo many good things are going on: amazing girlfriend, amazing church community, amazing friends all over, amazing downtown times with Food For Thought, amazing etcetera. I'm just a very happy fellow. A very happy fellow who is completely out of things to say.
Let's try this again tomorrow.

| About a year ago in this blog, I mentioned my desire to better my guitar skills and start playing some solo shows. I think I'm finally getting to that point! I've been playing a ton of guitar, and it's been almost constant these past few months. I actually feel like a guitarist instead of a bassist fiddling around on the guitar. I'm not trying to say I'm awesome, or anything; I just feel good about my guitar playing. It feels natural now, the way the bass has always felt to me. I've even started trying to learn the Delta blues a little bit.
Also, I've been writing an awful lot of songs, most of them finger-picked (that seems to be my default guitar mode). Now they just need lyrics, and I'm gonna' try to make myself buckle down and write some. There's one song I'm really, really excited about that I'm gonna' play on electric guitar, with Kevin and Craig backing me up on guitar and drums, respectively. It's the first time I've written an entire song myself, brought the idea to Kevin and Craig, and heard it fleshed out exactly the way it was in my head. Even better, actually! Few things are as exciting as that.
I can't wait to get all these songs completed and play them live! I feel like George Harrison coming out of his shell, which is great, because George is my favorite Beatle.

| There's never been a better time to get my act together. Wish me luck!
Better yet, pray for me. Let's not leave it to chance, eh?
:: edit :: To clarify, I'm talking about focusing on God, seeking Him, and becoming the man He desires for me to be. I just feel a certain urgency, a strong pull, and your prayers would be greatly appreciated! :: tide ::

| Welp, after four or five recording sessions spread out over six months and an awful lot of hard work, the first ever Scales of Motion full-length album is complete, and I am so freaking excited about it! It's called Cave Dweller (I might have mentioned that before), and it's basically about the various kinds of "caves" and "boxes" in which we find ourselves imprisoned throughout life on this planet. I'm very happy to be able to say that every song on this album has lyrics. Our previous two Scales releases, an EP and a mini-LP, each had an instrumental song.
I'm just excited for people to hear this! I hope people will like it. We tried all kinds of new stuff on this album. In addition to our standard guitar, bass, and drums, there's a lot of keyboard, some tamborine, melodica, acoustic guitar, banjo, sleigh bells, lap steel, egg shaker, and lots and lots of feedback. The song styles vary pretty widely, and we tried a couple of new things vocally. Sorry to keep rambling; I'm just very excited that it's finally done!
Hank did a fantastic job with the recording! I could not be happier. And he's such a great guy and so much fun to work with.
All that remains is to work up some packaging and make some copies. Phew!

| Things I've done recently that I never thought I'd do: - Trimmed my facial hair significantly (maybe it's not that noticeable, but it's a huge change for me). - Got a pretty good-sized tattoo on my forearm. - Got asked to play with freaking COLOUR REVOLT! - Saw one of my best friends from 9th and 10th grade for the first time since...well, since high school, at least. - Tried soy milk. - Gone dumpster diving.
There are lots more, too. Suffice it to say, there are quite a few new things in my life right now, and I like it!
:: edit :: Things I've learned recently: - Kevin and I apparently look more alike than ever before. :: tide ::
